Community Meeting on Library Budget in Steele Creek
Posted on May 2nd, 2010
To The Steele Creek Community:
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library staff will hold a Community Meeting on Thursday, May 6 at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church beginning at 6:30 PM to share information about the Library's budget. The church is located at the corner of S. Tryon Street and Westinghouse Boulevard (9401 S Tryon St).
This is the last of several sessions scheduled throughout Mecklenburg County to describe the public library system's current current financial situation and explain next year's library budget options.
The purpose of these sessions is to:
•Share the presentation viewed at the Library's April 15 Board of Trustees meeting.
•Facilitate a dialogue between the community and the Library in order to identify additional factors that may assist with planning for FY 2011, which begins July 1.
•Encourage citizen advocacy and support for the Library.
In April Director of Libraries Charles Brown presented three scenarios to the Board of Trustees that outlined ways the Library could potentially deal with an expected $17 million budget cut from Mecklenburg County.
The Board of Trustees will vote on the Library’s final operating budget in June following adoption of the FY11 budget by the Board of County Commissioners.
For more information about the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library budget, visit their website at http://www.plcmc.org/about_us/librarybudgetinfo.asp.
A good turnout will help demonstrate the support that the Steele Creek community has for our local library.
